Wii games will be on every parent's list this year

Want to know what your kids will want you to buy, wrap and stick underneath the Christmas tree in Wii games for them to open this year? This is the place you need to be. With a plethora of titles for Nintendo’s most popular gaming system you can easily find yourself bewildered by titles that mean little to you but are akin to the gold standard to your video game progenies.

The Nintendo Wii system seems to show no sign of halting its advance toward the title of top selling video game system of all time. Hitching a ride on the train are so many great video game titles your kids will love to find in their Christmas stash this year. The excitement may cause momentary ear-shattering shrieks and screams, but there is no substitute for the smiles that will last well pat these moments

So many homes already possess the Wii that Nintendo is placing a lot of its development time into the games to go with the Wii. For the kids lucky enough to have a Wii sitting in their home this is great news! Your kids have such a wide variety of choices that you can be pretty confident of finding something they will enjoy, titles that are family friendly, with the capacity to keep the whole family entertained.

Following is a list of the top selling games for the Wii. No one should be surprise to see Nintendo’s iconic hero Mario in three of the seven games. The introduction of a new version of Super Mario Brothers for the Wii has been well received and is sure to be of interest to those gamers who began the saga as adolescents and teens two decades ago.

Super Mario Galaxy 2
Amazon Price: $44.70
List Price: $49.99

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Continuing the theme from the original Super Mario Galaxy, the Nintendo geniuses looked at what might be weaknesses and made the improvements we have come to know Nintendo will deliver to us. The game is a great continuation, delivering the classic Mario adventure in a galactic setting. With a gravity component, your kids can find plenty of challenges to keep them enthralled for hours.

Mario’s little buddy Yoshi finds his way into this update. Yoshi is no stranger to Mario’s challenges to save his beloved princess and your kids will love using him in the planets they will learn he is limited to. All in all this is a great continuation of the Super Mario Galaxy series.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Amazon Price: $32.49
List Price: $49.99

New Super Mario Brothers

If you grew up with Super Mario brothers you already know more than I can tell you in a short article, Nintendo is a master at keeping its titles current, resurrecting this classic that has always been a flagship title on every game system that carries the Nintendo brand. Once again we follow Mario and Luigi as they dodge mushrooms, Koopas, turtles, fireballs and their arch enemy Bowser.

The Wii controls are adapted very well to allow you to move Mario and Luigi around their world. I can remember wearing out my Super Nintendo controller as I tried hour after hour to master the game. The Wii control is equal to the task and actually probably easier to use that the old controllers.

Just Dance
Amazon Price: $13.97
List Price: $39.99

Just Dance

Do you think that dance is not popular these days? Try sitting in front of your television and surfing the channels without finding some type of show devoted to dancing these days and you will have to adjust your perception. Shows such as Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You can Dance and more show us that dance is alive and well.

Just Dance is a game where you can mimic the moves of a game silhouette in much the same way you might the trainer on the wildly popular Wii Fit title. The big hook with just Dance is the 32 music tracks you can try to match your dance moves to. The titles are some that you will recognize, such as U Can’t Touch This, Who Let the Dogs Out?, Pump Up the jam and more.

Will your kids be ready for America’s Got Talent after playing Just Dance for a month or two? Not unless they have oodles of talent. But the game might get them off the couch and that is worth the price of the game.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4
Amazon Price: $11.50
List Price: $19.99

LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4

The crew of Hog Warts gets a LEGO treatment in this Wii game. Following on the heels of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, Nintendo seems intent on seeing how many successful tries it can make. Luckily the Potter franchise is so full of easily adapted scenes that the game is a roaring success.

Your child will be captivated by the magical abilities the characters possess and excite to be able to collect items that allow them to unlock new characters or add more abilities to their already existing ones. Based on the first four movies, your Potter fans will find familiar themes through the screens as they play.

Metroid: Other M
Amazon Price: $8.58
List Price: $49.99

Metroid Other M

Classic Metroid fans remember how much fun it was navigating through the worlds as Samu Aran took his turn blasting away at foes. With 2-D and 3-D views, your gamers will have loads of fun exploring the space station as their foes close in to try to halt their success.

Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel
Amazon Price: $39.64
List Price: $49.99

Mario Kart with Wii wheel

My kids are 12 and 15 and they absolutely love this game, playing it more than any other game in their Wii collection. If you have four Wii remotes you can have four windows to allow for a multiplayer experience. This is great fun as you battle eleven other competitors on familiar Mario themed worlds.

We have one Wii Wheel, which is actually just a round wheel the Nintendo Wii remote clicks in to give you the feel of a real steering wheel. It is not too difficult just to turn the Wii remote sideways and accomplish the same purpose as you use the buttons for gas and for an extra boost.

Wii Sports Resort
Amazon Price: $29.95
List Price: $49.99

Wii Sports Resort

Building off the phenomenal success of the original Wii Sports game included with every Wii system, the Wii Sports Resorts adds a great group of other sports for your children’s enjoyment. The most exciting thing about the Wii Sports resort may be that instead of only five titles like Wii Sports presented, you have an even dozen to broaden your gaming choice.

The games include a Frisbee game, archery, table tennis basketball, canoeing, cycling, wake boarding, what they call swordplay and air sports. Holdovers from the original Wii Sports are golf and bowling, two of the favorites of the best selling Wii title.
