How good deeds change the world:What act of people help do good things
75Kindness - a virtue worth seeking
Kindness is a virtue we should all seek to make second nature in our lives. Do you not appreciate any kindness extended to you by other people? I know I do, as it shows that the person is not only thinking of our well being, but cares enough to put aside their needs or desires to help you out. It always humbles me when this happens as I realize I can easily be distracted by the fast pace of my world and miss the opportunities to make a difference in someone’s life.
Helping others is a task I never tire of doing. I seek ways to assist my family, friends and even strangers whenever and wherever possible. It can be as simple as flagging down another car to alert them to the parking spot you are exiting which will save them several steps. Or perhaps returning a buggy to the store to prevent an unnecessary trip for a mother with a child or children she cannot leave alone.
This kind of action would better fall into the category of random acts of kindness. You see it is not necessary that you know the person. In fact kindness of the purest form is accomplished with no expectation of acknowledgement. If the person does not know you the act of kindness is simply because you want to be a perpetrator of good deeds.
Want to know how to help the world? Good deeds, acts of kindness, helping others and random acts of kindness are a good start. Teaching kindness to our children will pay dividends for generations to come. The idea of helping others has survived since the beginning of time and any act of kindness will contiue to feul this desire in all of us.
Ways to help
What can you do as a random act of kindness? The list is endless. You can hold a door; you can offer to save someone a trip to the local landfill by offering to take their trash along with yours. You can shovel the snow from a driveway of someone you know has no business doing this them self. Helping others carries with it great rewards, but not the monetary type. An act of kindness may inspire another to seek random acts of kindness within their skill set to help others.
My mother has a neighbor that is a single woman in her fifties now. She works as a Registered Nurse at the obstetrics ward at the local hospital. This past winter we had substantial snowfalls several times. Using the benefit of my four wheel drive truck I was able to make it to the hill where she lived and scoop the snow away from her vehicle and also make a path from her parking area to her door, which was up a step flight of steps. Her gratitude was enough to make me cherish the act of kindness I chose as one of the ways to help others.
Acts of kindness
I live in a part of the country where people do things a bit different than most. When there is a death everyone who is friends with the family will swoop in to try to help ease the burden. Their acts of kindness may include fixing food, singing at the funeral, being pallbearers, helping to prepare the house for the onslaught of visitors intent on paying their respects.
Perhaps you have an elderly neighbor or one with physical limitations that make the tasks you deem annoyingly simple to be utterly impossible for them. We raise a large vegetable garden and have people who ask us to raise particular crops for them that they are physically unable to plant, care for and harvest. To us it is an enjoyable past time, but to those who cannot do this it is one of the acts of kindness they may have done when they were younger or more able, even as we are simply helping others.
Good deeds
It is a great habit to get into to look for a good deed to do for another person. Helping others will set your mind off the selfish thoughts of yourself to allow you to share your friendship with an act of kindness. Perhaps you could buy them lunch when you run out during the day, or roll their car windows up before it rains, or maybe even offer to baby sit their children so they can have a night out.
The power of nice should not be understated. The majority of people are running around this life stretched to their limit and seeking any assistance from any quarter. People helping others is their only hope and they will not always ask for the assistance.
If you cannot think of ways to help your friends or neighbors just ask. They may be surprised the first time, but when you prove you want only to render acts of kindness they will come around to appreciate your willingness in helping others. Who knows you may inspire acts of kindness in them.
Helping others
Have you ever noticed the outpouring of support for the victims of a natural disaster? Television is quick to broadcast pictures of the terrible effects of nature as storms tar apart the lives of people just like you and me. Acts of kindness are suddenly replaced by acts of necessity as the lives of the people affected are in real jeopardy. So does this mean good deeds have no place in such a time? Not really, the ways to help change, but the need is constant.
People in New Orleans benefitted from the kindness of millions of strangers they never saw that contributed funds to the disaster relief. Scores of crews from around the country delivered their act of kindness as they helped remove debris or restore electricity and power to the area. Mission groups from churches continue to illuminate ways to help as they work with localities to replace structures totally obliterated by the wall of water delivered by Hurricane Katrina.
We know there as many ways to help as there are people to offer these acts of kindness. The motivation to do so is usually the factor that is lacking. If you have had the pleasure of receiving kindness from another you understand how powerful this virtue can be. I hope this hub will inspire you to seek to discover new ways to help others.

I like your ideas. Thumbs up!
Dobson,
Very good Hub. You have put "The Golden Rule" into action by doing unto others as you would have them do unto you!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Dobson, thanks for the topic--I especially like the keeping your eyes open part. (Brandon Heath-"Give Me Your Eyes") Taking our eyes off the traffic and adsense and seeing what people need is a good deed with no expectation of a return. =:)
Hi Dobson,

You are so right. Those random acts of kindness can mean a lot. Even the small things. Once, the people in front of me paid my toll for the tunnel and it made me smile so, I just felt great all day, way beyond proportion of the act.

Random acts of kindness and senseless beauty must be common for you. I enjoy doing them too, and I appreciate those that are directed at me just as much.
