The 60dc2 - More online traffic:: better web analysis skills::higher google page ranks::meeting new friends - my hublog
61Sunforged is our illustrious guru
So who is Sunforged and what the heck is a 60 day challenge? No, its not another quick lose diet plan, although i expect he could easily recruit enough of us writers that do not get enough exercise while tapping away at our computers. It is an organized effort to improve the quantity and quality of writing on Hub pages while introducing some new writers and expanding the following of all involved.
So the gist is this, write 30 hubs in 30 days about thought provoking original topics that help to enhance the qulity of work on display on hub pages. Following this we work together to promote each other's work to the masses, including the gold standard, Google. Along the way we will pick up each other, dust off the debris of the journey and pat each other on the back as we all drive toward the goal.
I am so excited to join the thirty hubbers who will take part in this 60 day extreme challenge. I absolutely love hub pages as it gives me a place to express myself and hone my writing skills. Not only that but I have made some good friends here. It seems there is an unending collection of people willing to give you advice on how to better your results.
Now I am only starting my fifth moth here so I definitely still have much to learn. My traffic is not what I would like and neither are my AdSense and Amazon revenues. To put it bluntly if my hub experience was put in business terms I might be in trouble. You see it is not that I don't get the concept, i was just slow catching on to how powerful great keywords and low competition on subjects and keywords was. I am revising many of my older hubs and with time I can right the ship as they say.
My Hub Summaries for the 60 day challenge part 2
The goals I want to achieve
- I want to learn how to increase my web traffic
- Understand all the intricacies of Google AdWords to maximize my potential earnings with each advertisement that is placed and clicked in my hubs
- I want to augment my search engine optimization skills
- Increase my level of understanding concerning the affiliate networks available to me as a hub pages writer
- Make more money blogging, writing or hubbing, whichever term is most accurate
- Build strong friendships with other hubbers
- Gain in my writing skills through concentrated writing and feedback from ore experienced peers
- Place more of my hubs in the top search engine results
- Better understand what is necessary to guarantee a good Google search engine ranking
- Learn about the web analysis tools such as Google Analytics so i can know where my weak areas are and enhance those weaknesses
- Read and comment on every other challenge hub so i can build up friendships with the other challengers as I offer words of encouragement and friendship
My motivation
You know I think my ultimate motivation is to have more people read my writing. As writers don;t we all want that? I so enjoy reading the comments of people that visit my hubs. I know that being wildly successful means we pull in large numbers of folks through the search engines. I will be pleased when that is true, but I also like to have fellow hub pages writers visit my hubs and tell me what they think.
Writing is a hobby that sometimes borders on an obsession with me. I find myself when I am not writing a hub mentally laying out how i would create one on another subject. As I said before it is the process of researching the competition and the best keywords that I have moved to now and is delivering almost immediate divideneds. I look forward to sharing some high paying, low competition keywords as this challenge continues.
Promotional tactics
To help myself as well as others I will do the following promotional things:
- Take advantage of the twitter feed
- Use the feedburner approach
- Promote on Social Networking sites such as Facebook, Shetoldme, Redgage,Xomba and Social Marker
- Include RSS Feed capsules in every hub I publish with one of the three options to keep challenge hubs visible for as long as possible
The choice of topics
So in all I have read their is a direction to choose 3-10 topics for the hubs we intend to write. I am sure I could fill 10 topics, but that would take a lot more research. I feel I have identified some really good keywords and plan to limit mine to 5 or less. That way I can focus and deliver quality work,
Before anyone gets excited and tells me that one of my topics is a non-paying one, let me say I understand this. I guage success not only by monetary measures but by comments from readers who enjoy my work. I have a 40 part serial I am finishing and another I intend to start soon, so one of my topics will be the Creative Writing one. The others are these:
- Finance
- Internet
- Christmas
- Religion
- Creative Writing
I have an established base of readers for my serials and cannot leave them hanging for thirty days while I do this. I hope you find these to be a good source of entertainment and become fans of my writing!
Giving thanks to Sunforged
I want to take a minute to thank the new father, sunforged, for sharing some of his limited time with us as he shepherds this challenge. I am a father of fifteen years and I can still remember the incredible commitment of time a new baby demands. I hope we can all pitch in to lessen the strain on Sunforged as he has important duties to his baby and his wife.
Thanks for all you have already done Sunforged as well as for all you will do. You are certainly an embodiment of the Hub Pages attitude I find so refreshing. I am sorry to say every online community is not as blessed to have so many quality members who seek to build a great reputation for their platform.
My current stats
My current stats are mediocre in my estimation. I am averaging a bit over 100 views per day, but this number bounces around more than the super bouncy ball we all had as kids. I would like to see the number stabilize a bit more and make a steady increase.
The same goes for my AdSense clicks. I am fortunate to get one click per day although my impressions are numerous. My Amazon impressions have recently spiked and I am seeing more clicks, so I hope I have begun to tame that tiger.

August 17 - Day 2
My next hub is going to be the beginning of another 40 part continuing serial story. I understand creative writing does not bring in the Amazon and AdSense revenue, so i must be much smarter when choosing my other topics. I have found a receptive aduience to the long serials and feel I have a responsiblity to contiue to grow that audience as well as that sector of writers.
The new serial will be called "A Family Secret." It will follow the Demarco family as they gather for their annual two week reunion at a lake house that has seen more than thrity such gatherings. This year though there is so many secrets in the air that everything this family once considered normal will change forever by the end of the vacation time.
August 16 - The first day
So many things to do! I am so glad I went ahead and put together my hub log last week so i could focus on all the other prliminary stuff. I am working on a hub about Exchange traded Funds to be my first hub in the finance category. The research as been a long process as i am not exactly an expert. I like the potential for AsSense from topics in finance, so i will be anxious to see how things go.
August 18 - third day
Wow what a day. I published my first two hubs to a great amount of comments!
Also, I had a fabulous AdSense click on a hub with a Page Ecm of over $600! Unfortunately my share was a small fraction, but it is a fraction. I really want to up this amount!
Another great thing happened on Amazon, I sold a $100 item ang got the $4 bounty. One more sale and I get up to the 6% referral bonus for the first time. Things are moving in the right direction!
August 20 - Day 5
I had quite a writing spree today, adding three hubs. I added the 31st chapter of my Jenny's Life serial, a hub about AdWords and one about foregin stock markets.
AdSense and Google performance is continuing to be strong.
August 19- 4th day
The hubs seemed to flow very well today as I added three to my total. I worte about the time to decorate your Christmas tree, American Girl Doll ornaments and the American Girl Dolls themselves.
Amazon continues to be a bright spot as I shipped the fith item this month and had another order. When all this finishes I will move up to the 6% bounty. My Amazon total is the highest fro one moth that I ever have had!
The CTR for Adsense registers a 3.33% yesterday, which is low for some I am sure but was good for me. This seems to be increasing each day, which will allow me to revise one of my goals. I would like to keep the avearge at 4% or more each day.
August 22 - Day 7
No new hubs today either. Amazon registers two more sales to move me to the next bonus on my referral percentage. This is the firs time i have ever been able to claim that honor.
August 21 - Day 6
No new hubs today. Weekends are hectic, so i satisfied myself in reading other hubs from the challengers and commenting on as many as were presented in the daily feed.
August 24 - Day 9
The words flowed much more easily today and I was able to add three more hubs, bringing my total to 11. I added a hub about Operation Christmas Child, Index Funds and the second chapter of my new serial A Family Secret.
AdSense clicks continue to stay steady although I would like to see a better value for the click. Amazon is quiet on this day, except for several clicks. Maybe they will convert before the timer expires.
I read an intersting hub by Humagaia about Google Search and have stepped back to review the titles of my hubs to make sure they will get the best look by the search spiders.
August 23 - Day 8
This is probably the most frustrating day I ever had on hub pages. I am trying to get the twitterfeed working as well as some othe rbehind the scenes stuff. I have started at least eigth hubs, but get a paragraph or two in and do not feel the flow. I never force my writing when this happens. It is better to leave the subject and give it time to simmer.
Three more sales on Amazon and contined steady moveement on AdSense put a positive spin on an otherwise stinky day.
August 26 - Day 11
No new hubs today. Instead I took Sunforged advice and read the hub by Shazwellyn about SEO on page optimization tips. If you don't take time to do this you might as well just toss your money out the window.
My 13th Amazon shipment completed today and I got 5 Google AdSense clciks in one dya for the first time.
August 25 - Day 10
I was really feeling the hub karma (no not that kind the other kind) today. I managed to roll out four more hubs to reach the half way point of the challenge. I know that thirty hubs in thirty days is not something new and is completely doable, but something about staring at the mountain made me nervous. Now I am halfway and feel like I have the liberty to be selective about my remaining topics and throw in a few of my non-commercial selections.
As a matter of fact, the first I published today is in that category. The hub about Our Family Mission Statement is one of the hubs I am most excited about. The other three I published today are about Buying Restaurant Gift Cards Online, the RealArcade Online game site and paying your credit card bill online.
Now for the daily affilliate report. Adsense continues to be steady with clicks coming on a regular basis. Amazon on the other hand is mushrooming and I have 14 sales so far this month which is much above a usual monthly total. I see that is due to some of my seasonal hubs maturing at the right time and being indexed by Google.
Augst 28 - Day 13
No new hubs today. I continue to read and comment on the hubs of other hubbers in the challenge. I also am reading about ways to generate more clicks on AdSense.
August 27 - Day 12
Another good hub writing day. Three more new hubs including Order gift cards online Buy iTunes gift card online; Order gift cards online: Buy Xbox Live gift cards online and the 32nd chapter of my continuing serial stroy Jenny's Life.
Big AdSense news, I received a single click worth $3.20!! Unfortunately that hub is not on one of my vchannels, so i have no idea which hub it was although I believe it was between two of the new hubs created for the challenge that I had not added to channels, so I added them.
August 30 - Day 15
After reading the hub by challenger Shazwellyn I created an Amazon A-store. I like this idea, but want to let it settle in one hub and see how it fares before adding more to my hubs. There is more reaseach to do on keywaords for the remaining hubs to write. I am being much more judicious about the topics on my last dozen. The intent is to choose keywrods that draw the paying readers.
August 29 - Day 14
More reaing of hubs by the other challengers. There are some interesting ideas falling out of these hubs that will be great tips to tuck away fro use on subsequent hubs within and after the challenge.
August 31 - Day 16
More commenting and more reading about good ways to increase the SEO of my hubs. I also tweaked some of my titles to see if I could change the amount of visitirs and realting AdSense clicks to the hubs.
September 2 - Day 18
I am writing my 21st hub, but will not publish it until September 3rd (Friday) because it is the 33rd chapter of my Creative Writing serial which is always posted on Friday for weekend enjoyment of my fans. The gracious comments from those who follow my serial are so cherished that I cannot imagine not sharing my passion with them.
The Google AdSense train seems to be gaining steam as the clicks and income become more steady each day. Perhaps i can reach my first payout before the challenge ends!
September 1 - Day 17
My hub total is now 20 with the addition of two hubs, one about buying LEGOs online and the other about a forex currency converter. I was excited to see 10 AdSense clicks yesterday that totaled 1/3 as much money as the previous 30 days had. This is by far my best AdSense month.
