How to make a bed

First of all you must have something to make the bed with. No, i don't mean the frame or head and foot boards, although those components are certainly necessary. I am talking about the linen pieces that make the bed comfortable, inviting and pleasing to the eye. There is not many thing to compare to a nice, comfotable bed.

So, the first thing that will matter is that your sheets are properly sized for your mattress. There are a variety of bed sizes, standard, twin, full, queen, king and California King. If your sheets are not the same size as your mattress this entire excercise will be fruitless if not maddening.

There should be a sheet in your collection with elastic either at the corners or at the ends. These corners will need to be fitted over the corners of your mattress. Be sure to pull the elastic all the way over the mattress corners, or this fitted sheet will pull loose and aggravate you duyring the night.

Next you will have what is called the flat sheet, a rectangle of fabric that rests atop the fitted one. Unlike the fitted one, this sheet has nothing to hold it on, so it must be tucked under the mattress on the foot end of the bed. Again, if this is not done sufficiently well, you will receive a notice during the night in the form of cold air on your toes, feet legs and everything else.

Most people have some other type of covering over the sheets as they are usually pretty thing and not intended for warmth. Blankets, quilts and comforters hare heavier, which provides more warmth, but still must be places on the bed so they do not pull loose during the night as you turn and toss through your sleeping hours.

The last thing in your sheet pack will be pillow cases. These are intended to shile you pillows from the various hazards of the sleep experience, including the olis from your face and hair that develop during the day and the inevitable fluids that drool out of your mouth when you are sleeping. I know, its gross, but very true.

Some comforter sets come with shams that will need extra pillows to help dress up your bed. Ideally these will never be use for sleep, but are just an option for style. Be sure to have a place to toss these when you are ready to go to bed a night, because otherwise your bed may become very crowded.

Try this method and see if it helps in your quest for a well made bed.

Hi, Dobson. I just want to make my mark in this comment's capsule by saying, thanks for putting my "bed-making" to shame. Seeing that I DON'T make my bed. Haha. I have my own version of "making the bed". Usually fixing the sheet however I feel like fixing it that morning before running out of the house.

I don't either, much to the chagrin of my wife. Of course usually because she is still either in it or on it when i leave for work. I need to come back and improve this as it was one of my first efforts.
