Being a good Hub Page Neighbor
60Don't just come to hubpages to make money online
If you want to make money online you probably have searched for that particular phrase looking for a good method of making money online with some kind of reputable website. Hubpages provides that kind of opportunity thanks to a platform of reward using what is called an affiliate program. In short, Hubpages partners with some of the giants of the Internet to give their writers a serious inroads to quality money making opportunities.
This hub is about being a good hubpages neighbor, so i want to say here that the biggest caution is to not get so caught up in the money that you fail to take advantage of the great opportunity to network with other writers. You can find freelance writers with tons of experience as well as published authors that will sharte their experience as you seek to make your name in the business. You will encounter many writers who will have a niche interest that mirrors yours and can lead to a great discussion and learning oppoirtunity. In short, be a good nieghbor on Hubpages as you would anywhere else.
A writer’s obligation
Writing is one of the basic skills each human being should develop. It is tru not everyone will be a writer in the sense of the majority of the authors here on Hub Pages, but we all need to be able to put our thoughts down in a coherent way. If your writing is such that one cannot read and draw any positive knowledge from it, you are not contributing to the betterment of that reader, which is essence means you are wasting their time. No one likes a time waster, just ask the telemarketer or the universally dreaded door to door salesman or religion hawker.
When we write, we should take the time to think of our subject so we write something worth reading. For instance think of Tolstoy’s work, War and Peace. This masterpiece covers over 1200 pages, but is one of the most famous and best loved pieces of literature in our history. Length is not always the hallmark of a good work. For instance, I read Tom Clancy’s The Bear and The Dragon and at 1,028 pages I felt like “the draggin’” (pun intended) was in the plot in the middle section where the same idea was repeated with no real plot development.
What I am saying is think out your work so you do not bore your reader. Good work will promote your career, making people want more, but a bad article might be your only chance to collect this reader’s eyes. This is a reminder of the saying “you only get once change to make a first impression!”
A reader’s obligation
Many of us here at Hub Pages are amateurs, so our work is relatively immature. We want to be somebody in the world of online writing, but very few start out on top and stay there. Only with time and considerable experience can we become one of the best in this field. Many of us have more passion than experience and talent is something we develop every time we write or read.
Reading is as vital to hub Pages as writing, for if no one reads, why write. Read with charity, as you would wish others to read your work. Sometimes we get distracted and misspell a word that is not caught by the spell checker, or perhaps we inadvertently spell a word correctly but use the wrong version. Be kind in your critiques as we want to encourage others as we wish to be encouraged.
Rate it!
On every article at the bottom is a section where you can rate the article. Take advantage of this opportunity. We all know that the success of things in this world is based on numeric values and the articles are no different. By rating you are providing another source of feedback to the author, which ultimately makes Hub Pages a better site. We all want that as it means Hub Pages will live a long and happy life, pulling us along for the ride.
Everyone loves to see the overall score of their article increase, but this will only happen if it is rated. This is a great opportunity for you to have a direct impact on the success of this online writing site. You are becoming an owner when you participate in this way.
Comment!
Another opportunity to make Hub Pages better is the option to comment on a hub. When you read an article, at least take a moment to leave a comment. Make sure to leave positive comments, even if there is a criticism you think the author might benefit from, after all no one likes being berated in the expression of their passion.
A good habit is to follow up the comments of others to let them know you cared enough to read their words. You can build relationships and get more page reads when these hubbers share with their friends about your article and attitude.

Very good advice. When I first began writing on line, it was a very lonely experience, and I had selfish motives, only wanting to be read. I offered little to anyone else, but somehow all that changed, and making friends, and reading the hubs of others, along with encouraging them with comments for whatever I read, became a major part of the hubpages experience. The writers community is very important to me now, though I tend to avoid ever pressing the down key. If I think the writer has a ways to go as a writer, I tend not to rate. I make a point to rate thoughtful, well researched, and well written articles. Good advice is to read your hubs over a time or two in order to catch misspelled words, typos, etc. I am sure I miss some, but probably also catch many by reading the hub more than once.
Good advice and nicely presented.Rated up:)
Hi Dobson. I just recently started using the rate up tool. Do you think bookmarking improves a hub's score? If you're interested in raising your hubs' scores, I've heard adding photos and videos helps. I don't have any videos on mine, but for photos I either upload my own or use free public domain clipart that I find online. You're hubs are well written, especially since you seem to be writing them quickly.
Your points are well taken. I always make it a point to read a hub of someone who has taken the time to read one of mine and leave a comment. Getting to know different writers here on hubpages is a joy!
Thanks so much Dobson, I agree absolutely with you and have been especially grateful for your encouraging comments.
I agree. I absolutely LOVE receiving comments. It lets me know that not only did the person care to read my Hub but they also cared enough to share their opinion with me. Sometimes when I check my Hub and see that no one have commented, I'm kind of sad... But enough about me. This is a very useful Hub! Thanks!
This is another excellent hub you have written, of course I am a bit late, but I do like the concept not everyone is a writer but we all want to succeed. Comments are a must because of this. I am still learning how great it is to have others comment on my hubs and to comment back on theirs. rated up and all that good stuff.
This is great advice; thank you for the great information. It's really good to have advice on how to be a better Hub Pages' "neighbor." I really liked the way you called us neighbors.
This is a hub well worth reading. For every hub I read, I leave a comment. Most of what I have read, the writers have put a very strong effort forth. I have also met a couple of great writers and people here who have been kind enough to give me some much appreciated feedback on some of my writing. Everyone should read this article. Thanks.
A kind and thoughtful article. Rated up here, there, and everywhere.
I am happy to comment. Right now, I am concentrating more on becoming a part of the hub community by getting aquainted. I know it's time to publish another hub, but I get so involved in reading and commenting, because I LOVE it!Oh, BTW rate up! grin.....
Incredible advice and you have a lot of it. I am very new to Hubpages and have so much to learn. I used to write a lot, but I'm afraid life - husband, children, church, work, activities galore - have kept me from the personal time it takes to develop my skills so I have regressed quiet a bit. Your advice is well written and well taken. I also found your advice about IMAutomator. I just signed up and listed 10 URLs. I think I missed out on your "30 hubs in 30 days" challenge. If you are interested in doing that again, count me in. Thank you for taking the time to share your advice and the things that work for you. I look forward to reading much more from you.
Good Evening Dobson
You know I found my way to this hub by accident. I glanced over at the 'Related Hubs' section and just thought 'What the hell?' and happened to pick this one. I'm glad I did.
You have a smooth way of writing. I was done reading your essay almost before I knew I'd started. I rated this up and useful. There I was actually torn between choosing 'useful' or 'beautiful.'
I have recently started using the rate up tool. Every little bit helps, right? I also try to comment on at least five hubs a day, paying special attention to the hubbers kind enough to follow me. I agree with kaltopsyd; I love to find comments on my hubs and I too feel kind of sad where there are none. :-(
Anyhoo, good hub. Well done. :-)
Agree on every point. All of these things build community, and that's what HubPages is about. The point is to contribute, so the writing must bring something to the table, and the flipside is that it isn't a podium. It's a conversation. That's where rating and commenting come in.
Awesome hub. :)
Cheers,
Tia
Good things to remember here, especially for those who are new to HubPages (and I guess I am, sort of). Thanks!

Dobson,
I agree with your approach to both reading and writing. Your observation on spell check is cogent since one can put a properly spelled word out of context of what you meant to tell. Kudos on your hub!!!!!!!!
