Cityville: A guide to Cityville businesses and the upgrades: What businesses are upgradeable in cityville

By

Cityville on Facebook: The skinny on business upgrades

If you play any Facebook games, especially the Zynga created franchises you will understand how important energy in Cityville can be to accumulate and to use wisely. You receive 1 unit of energy every 5 minutes, plus the once daily reward for visiting your neighbors. To maximize the effect you can now upgrade your businesses so that they will earn more each time you collect their earnings.

So, instead of the base payout for a bakery, which is a measly 40 coins, you can collect 540 coins if the business is fully upgraded. If you are crafty enough to include some of the payout boosters available in the game you can make this amount climb even more. Another business that you can upgrade to take a piddling pay out to one that is respectable is the Toy Store. At the beginning level, you will receive 180 coins, but fully upgraded your base is 670 coins.

Cityville businesses that are upgradeable are added slowly as the game grows in popularity, but there is no reason to believe the practice will be limited in scope. I will probably go to the Cityville forum and see if there is any information about new businesses to be upgradeable as well as any ideas about linking a method of generating Cityville money through this process.

After energy, trying to accumulate Cityville city cash is the most time consuming pursuit. You see there are some really interesting elements of the Cityville experience that can only be added by purchasing with Cityville money, called city cash. While you can easily spend your own real cash in exchange for blocks of this game currency, the designers might generate more interest in upgrading the Cityville businesses by tying city cash to the idea.

What Cityville businesses can be upgraded?

Currently there are five cityville businesses that can be upgraded: the bakery, the noodle restaurant, flower kiosk, coffee shop and the toy store. Of these, the noodle restaurant has the highest final earn rate at $800 per collection unaided by any multiplying decorations. Keep in mind this is without any decorations from bonus items, which if place right can significantly multiply your haul.

Below I have included Cityville images of the upgrade screens so you can see vital information, including the graphical representation of each level of store, the amount of coins when collected and the corresponding amount of goods necessary to resupply after collection. You will also see that you can request help from your friends to speed the upgrade. Each friend that assists will chip away at the total times you must collect to reach the next upgrade.

How will I know a business can be upgraded?

When you click on an upgradeable business you will see a couple of things to clue you in that it is indeed upgradeable. Cityville businesses all will have a little money bag floating over them when they are ready to be collected. For the businesses eligible for upgrade you will see either one or two stars over the business, just above the money bag. Also, you will see a type of meter showing how many collections have been made toward the upgrade against how many collections it took to finish the upgrade.

For the noodle shop, the requirement for the first level to upgrade to the second is 125 collections. In the first picture you will see the graph showing 114/125, meaning 11 collections remained before the first level could be upgraded. In the second picture the graph shows 125/125 meaning it is ready to upgrade. In the third picture we see a picture of the noodle shop when the graph is full. You get a message above the restaurant saying “Click to upgrade”.

In the final picture is the second level of the restaurant with a new graph to document your progress toward the final upgrade. Notice the graph shows 0/250, meaning 250 upgrades are necessary to reach the final upgrade. This is when your neighbors helping out will become important.

A graphical difference gives the Cityville businesses you upgrade a personality

Below this explanation are two pictures of the bakery. You can see the base bakery is pretty plain, but the second level has a bit more character. This allows you to quickly see where you have upgraded and where you still need to work on the act. This will also tend to be a marker of those players that are frequent players and likely to be good partners in your Cityville development quest.

One of the things I enjoy most about Cityville is how the building design is tied so closely to its respective theme. I try to add as many different Cityville businesses to my metropolis as possible to give it the most character. By doing this I also give myself the best chance of earning collections which can provide the very coveted energy boosts.

How does a Cityville collection tie to these upgradeable Cityville businesses?

When you collect the bakery you have the possibility of adding to the Just Desserts collection which can provide you 50 coins and 3 experience points when you trade it in. The toy store collection gives you a possibility of a piece of the game collection, which will yield 50 coins plus 3 of those elusive energy units which all crave. Lastly, the noodle shop will fill in the lunar New Year collection which can yield a Country pagoda, a decoration that increases the collection amount when placed near a business.

Included below are Cityville images of each of these collections in progress. The designers had enough forethought to make another way for players to earn Cityville city cash as they try to collect from one of the lower paying businesses. This undoubtedly will be something they will see as a value added idea and incorporate more as the rosters of upgradeable businesses grow.

Hey Dobs! This game sounds pretty fun. I haven't gotten into the Facebook array of games much lately, but your Cityville sounds fun. I really like that you can increase your city cash by adding the upgrades you mention. This kind of insider information is golden Dobs! Nice job-- I really like the visual part of your hub as well.
