Borrow books electronically-The Kindle Lending Library brings book lending to the internet
73Kindle plays electronic librarian!
Want to borrow books for your electronic book reader? What do you get when you combine the idea of a local library, which allows you to borrow books for a period of time with the largest Internet Retailer? What you get is the newest way for book lovers such as myself to enjoy their hobby. Can I put a name on it? Sure. It is called the Kindle Lending Library. Book lending goes high tech, harnessing the easy interface of the Kindle quite of devices with the convenience of the electronic readers as the entire Kindle library is offered.
By now we have heard the oft-recycled argument that there is nothing like a real book in your hands. Well I am old enough to remember what shelves and shelves of books looks like. I know there is a lingering romanticism associated with book shelves full of the classic books and the perception that rides along about the intellectual quality of the possessor. In many cases I suppose this assumption will hold true. But in this day of limited space, it is hardly practical.
The drawbacks to shelves of books are surely going to outweigh the notion. First of all, how many times can you read one book? Unless it is your absolute all-time favorite you are unlikely to read it more than three times. After this it is just something that occupies space. It will also collect dust, which is nothing anybody craves. Not to mention the sheer amount of space a book shelf commands.

Kindle is the undisputed best electronic book reader of all. With so many variations in the machine, you should have no trouble finding one to suit your needs. Here they are collected in one place for easy comparison and purchase.
The Kindle Lending Library works like your local library
Amazon is shrewd, no one can deny that. With its Kindle e-readers firmly entrenched as the dominant electronic readers, the inventory of titles available to launch this service is staggering. Try going to your local library to find unlimited titles. Due to the financial status of most county or regional libraries, this possibility is rare. Not true with the Kindle Lending library.
You can borrow books for up to a month. The book is delivered electronically to you for a month of reading pleasure. Kindle lending will end this process when your term expires, which saves you a trip back to the library. In many climates of the United States the winter weather can make this a big deal.
Kindle titles include New York Times Bestsellers
Many of us are excited to see news like this of another avenue to enjoy our technological devices, only to find such limitations that it is not such a great opportunity. With 5,000 titles, including more than 100 current or former books from the New York Times Bestsellers list, you will have no concern. The biggest problem you encounter will surely be paring down the potential candidates to make your selection.
Book lending at the local library is dependent on whatever quantity of books the library is able or willing to stock. If your targeted book happens to be a recent release, you can be handicapped by the quantity. You can add your name to a waiting list, but if the readers in front of you take some time, that can be a considerable delay.
Amazon has no such limitation, wanting to service your business immediately. Who wouldn’t want the flexibility of picking up the new book from an author you just heard giving an interview on the Today show or NPR? With the Kindle Lending Library you can be the first on your block to read the new creation.
What is the minimum requirement for the Kindle Lending Library?
It is probably obvious that you need a Kindle device. These electronic book readers have the capacity for many books, so you can still purchase books that you think you might want to keep. Depending on whether your machine is Wi-Fi enabled, you can borrow books anywhere you find wireless internet access.
You must also have Amazon Prime membership. I find this to be a good addition to my Amazon experience. For the amount of extras you receive it is certainly worth your time and effort.

Libraries will embrace this after initial grumbles
I keep hearing complaints about how electronic book readers will kill libraries. While I can understand their thought process about how potentially this could be true, I do not see many libraries with boards over the windows. In fact, if libraries are smart, they will embrace this new service as it will serve to expand their libraries offerings by significant numbers.
In fact some libraries purchase electronic book readers to lend to their patrons. You can also take your Kindle to a library to have a book added from their collection, if you enjoy the visit. In short, libraries will not be hurt by this service; in fact I think they should be the better for it.
The Kindle Lending Library will solidify Kindle’s e-book advantage
There is a plethora of electronic book readers in the market now. Each offers an ever expanding library of books to fit your desire. Unfortunately for the competitors, Amazon has a “bullet train” pulling their load that has a supreme advantage. The Kindle Lending Library will only help solidify their position as the leading provider of electronic books.
The addition of more price points for the various Kindle versions help to broaden the market appeal, but allowing people to borrow a book rather than purchase one is something cost conscious consumers will embrace. Free is better than discounted, and well worth the additional limitations; if it is actually a limitation to have a book for a month that is. For most dedicated readers thirty days will be just the right amount of time.

This is WONDERFUL news! I've been looking into getting a Kindle, but ultimately decided against it because I don't like to pay for my books. This is GREAT - now I can rent books AND have the convenience of a Kindle! :)
